Mission: Each student is highly educated, prepared for leadership and service, and empowered for success as a citizen in a global community.

Students have received their Interim Grade Reports on Wednesday, September 30.  This report

card shows the student’s academic progress during the first 4 weeks of school.  Final grades for

the first nine-weeks will be entered on October 30th with the report cards being sent home on

November 11.

The safety of everyone involved in our school is our highest priority.  We are asking that all visitors please stop immediately into the office.  If permission is given, you will be given a Visitors Pass.

All students have had the opportunity to ask questions concerning the guide to positive student behavior and what is expected.  This is particularly important when it comes to the topic of safety.  SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING is a safety initiative that is being implemented

this year at Starling.  In summary anyone, including parents and visitors, should report any type

of suspicions immediately.

We have had two evacuation (fire) drills so far this year, and we will continue to do so on a monthly basis.  The students and staff have also practiced our Lockdown procedures so that everyone will know what to do in case of an emergency situation.

Success in school is a direct result of attendance in school on a daily basis.  Please do not forget to call the school in the morning should your student be absent for any reason.  It is extremely important that students are in attendance EVERY DAY.  In fact, it is a state law that truancy charges will be filed should students have in excess of 15 absences.  Please communicate with our school counselor, social worker, attendance secretary, or the administration should any issues arise concerning daily school attendance.

Parent conferences are scheduled for November 12 and November 17 from 3:45-7:15.  Conferences with teachers are also available by calling the office to schedule an appointment.

The Franklinton Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library is offering homework help to our students. The hours are from 3:00-6:00 Monday through Thursday. Volunteers will be paired with students whose homework assignments align with the volunteer’s knowledge and skills. Please contact the Franklinton Library for more information.

Our 3rd grade students will be taking the Reading portion of the AIR on December 2-8.  Parents can assist in the following ways:

*Make sure your student is in school daily and on time.

*Make sure your student is well nourished in the morning.  Remember breakfast is free

at Starling each day and begins at 8:30.

*Ensure that your student is reading at home each evening.  Provide a quiet space that is

away from televisions and other distractions for 45 minutes to 1 hour nightly.

*Look for and respond to any communication coming home from the classroom teacher

    or the school office.

*Reassure them that there is nothing to be nervous about on the test.  “Just take your

time and do your very best.”

Thank you to everyone for helping with making sure our students get picked up and taken home safely.  It is extremely important that we have organized procedures in place for student safety.  Please adhere to the following guidelines:

*Parents please do not use the bus area to pick your student up with a car.  All vehicles should

drive to the rear pick-up area.

*Only parents/guardians of Starling students are permitted on school grounds at dismissal time.

There has been an increase of visitors to our dismissal areas-especially at the front exit area.

It is important for everyone’s safety that only parents and/or guardians are on our grounds.

Starling is partnering with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank this school year.  Our first Free produce

Market will be on Wednesday, October 21 from4:30-6:00 P.M. here at the school.

Starling will again have the opportunity for parents and students in grades 6, 7, and 8 to attend

Blueprint College.  This event which will take place on the evenings of October 22, 29, and

November 5, will assist parents and families with developing a long-range plan for college.  Free dinner, free childcare, as well as $20 gift cards, will be offered each evening.  Look for more information to come home soon.
