Starling STEM
Academic Brief

Our students and staff members make our school outstanding. We are very focused on developing positive relationships between our students, parents, and teachers. In addition to our great school community, eighth grade students have the opportunity to earn high school credit in French, art, vocal/instrumental music, as well as some core classes.

Starling K-8 is a STEM school. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is a delivery system for education, drawing on the strengths of scientific methods and technology to help students improve their critical thinking, problem solving skills, and systematic approach to learning. We will use a Project Based Learning approach to our teaching and learning this year. In Project Based Learning (PBL), students use inquiry in reponse to a complex question, problem, or challenge. Rigorous projects are carefully planned, managed, and assessed to help students learn key academic content, practice 21st Century Skills (such as collaboration, communication, and critical thinking), and create high-quality, authenic products and presentations.

At the center of everything are our Spartan Habits. The Habits are:
Purposeful Decision
Students will consider outcomes in relation to self, community, and world- long term and short term
Students will embrace possibilities and dreams
CharacterStudents will demonstrate respect, empathy, and honesty
CommitmentStudents will show integrity by following through with their decisions and responsibilities
